Abstract The pressure drop of air-water two-phase flow was studied in a cross-corrugated channel for vertical upward, downward and horizontal flow and uniform two-phase distribution. The frictional pressure drop is measured directly for horizontal two-phase flow, whereas a void-fraction model is necessary to derive it for vertical two-phase flow. The homogeneous model is evaluated by comparing the dissipation rates of all flow directions. If the gas-liquid distribution in the cross-corrugated channel is uniform, the homogeneous model is appropriate for void fractions up to 0.7 and centrifugal Froude numbers above 2. A correlation of the single-phase friction factor is given and shown to be valid for homogeneous flow. In the case of slip, is useful as first approximation.
